Possible update in late 2023
I may do another development sprint on this game after one or two more Agenda42 demos (unless people start getting excited about that game, but I can’t see that happening for another year or so). Godot 4 is a pretty powerful engine but I miss the sweet simplicity of my custom engine; I don’t want to neglect it.
- An editor simplification from Agenda42 (necessitated by Godot’s limitations)
- Animated water shader
- Enough content/gameplay for an abbreviated complete playthrough
- NO new artwork (or very little)
To really finish this game I’ll still need to implement transparency, update the asset pipeline to use Blender 3.x, debug the skeletal animation, and do a lot more artwork. Maybe I’ll just leave this as a demo and build a remake/sequel from the ground up.
Eventually I’d like to do more with this engine:
- Multithreaded scripting (QuickJS? GDScript?)
- GUI simplicity+performance overhaul, interactive layout/theming tool, spinoff as a single-file C library?
- Multithreaded 3D pipeline regens
- PBR texture support
- Minimal FPS/TPS support: capsule-trimesh collisions, navmesh pathfinding, etc (I’d love to build a first-person RPG with this engine if I can do it without feature bloat)
