Wishlist


These are some things I want in the game eventually if I can make them work. Crossed-off items are complete and in the demo, or will be in next demo. Core features are in Design Notes.

Day/Night Cycle

  • Sun and Moon objects
  • Directional and ambient lighting
  • Night Sky
    • Starfield texture
    • Sunrise/Sunset effect
    • Planets and primary stars in realistic orbits
    • LEO satellites
    • Comet?
  • NPC schedules
  • Effects on supernatural beings and abilities
  • Improved time-skip UI

Weather

  • Raindrops, wet ground, splashing footsteps
  • Wind

Maps

  • Auto-map of current level
  • HUD mini-map
  • Fog of War (hide unvisited areas)
  • Fast travel regional map & overmap UI with AStar road pathfinding
  • Auto-generated schematic “subway map” of intercity transport grid destinations

Vampire Vision Shaders

  • aura shader
    • fog? constrained to a skinned lowpoly body outline shape?
    • basic glow effect?
    • create_outline?
    • shader ‘flare’?
  • vampire vision sensitivity shader
    • desaturation effect
    • looking toward the rising/setting sun should cause white-out (that’s just realistic)
    • huge glow/aura radius?
    • exaggerate this effect so it even occurs with headlights, taillights, streetlights…
  • lens flare shader (found one, needs modding)
    • move to sky shader
    • auto sun position

Wing Mode

  • Basic artwork - bat/dragon/demon wings
  • Basic flight controls
  • Limitations
    • Hefty blood consumption required to (re)generate wings
    • Metamorphosis period - it may take several days for your wings to reach full size
    • Massive stamina consumption during powered flight
    • Conspicuous - basically you can only go out as a demon of the night
    • Cannot wear normal upper-body clothing
    • Air defenses may shoot at you (if you’re wearing/carrying enough manmade items to be mistaken for a drone)
  • Skill progression
    • Controlled long-jumps
    • Gliding
    • Full powered flight
    • Improved speed, maneuverability, efficiency
    • Further enhancements by sorcery
  • Better controls / physics (not too realistic!)
    • Smooth vertical rotation (same as horizontal rotation)
    • Acceleration and deceleration
    • Wall collisions - bounce, speed loss, tumble/fall
    • Aerial combat - melee, strafing, throwing, limited sorcery
  • Artwork
    • Black Angel outfits - leather straps, spikes, etc
    • White Angel variant - raptor wings, revealing gossamer robes, etc
    • Landing animation
    • Combat pose - wings folded out of the way
    • Combat animations (if wings can be used offensively or defensively)
  • Sound Effects

Intro sequence to set the stage

  • GOAL: unobtrusive (easily avoidable) intro sequence/questline
  • Startup video shows the basic premise
  • Start in the Spaceport upon your arrival
  • First-person start (i.e. you can’t see yourself until you do character creation)
  • Customs kiosk (optional)
    • Character creation interview
      • Chatbot asks you questions
      • Random body, gender, etc?
      • Then open character creation UI to review/tweak
    • Interacting with it again merely opens character creation UI
  • Ticket kiosk (optional)
    • Choose your destination (any ‘city hub’ level)
    • Option to leave immediately (so you don’t have to walk to the train)
  • Boarding kiosk (at the train)
    • Force character creation if not already done at customs kiosk
    • Choose your destination if not already done at ticket kiosk
    • Short text/slideshow/video plays during the ride

More Variety

  • Updates & Mods
  • Basic procgen filler NPCs
  • Social responses to player exploits - little cults, vampire hunters, broader trends, movements, clothing fashions
  • More parameters for randomization

Random

  • Cover art
    • Mirror shards effect?
    • Fancy background: graveyard, fog, clouds, moonlight
  • Full gamepad+keyboard controls in all popup UIs
  • Time scaling (like VTM’s Celerity) - use Engine.time_scale
  • Asylum revival - places where people voluntarily commit themselves to get away from modern civilization (but not vampires)
  • Self-driving cars coordinate with each other to optimize traffic flow (but automatically yield to real drivers)
  • VR headset support (requested by ChainsawCowboy)
